Apprenticeships

Are you interested in a career in automotive engineering?

Ivor Searle is a long established company and the UK's leading provider of remanufactured engines, cylinder heads, turbos and gearboxes.

As part of our business continuity planning, the business seeks to offer apprenticeships to 3 potential apprentices every year, so that they can learn the processes in each production department (i.e. stripping engines; crankshafts; cylinder heads; engine blocks; turbos; engine assembly; range development; maintenance).

A full training schedule is provided, for an apprentice to gain experience within each production department.

Ivor Searle's apprenticeship vacancies are advertised from January to mid-May each year at www.findapprenticeship.service.gov.uk and are also advertised on our college providers apprenticeship websites (West Suffolk College at Bury St Edmunds - who now partner with North Cambridgeshire Training Centre in Chatteris; College of West Anglia in Wisbech; and Cambridge Regional College.

We are seeking individuals who have the ability to identify solutions to problems; have good attention to detail; a positive attitude; honest; friendly; good time-keeping and a conscientious team player.  Duties may involve long periods of standing.

Minimum qualifications required for the apprenticeship are 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 and above in Maths; English; IT and Science (or equivalent)

The apprenticeship partner initially conducts pre-screening interviews. Applications are then passed through to us for consideration for interview. Candidates are then invited to Ivor Searle for group interviews and factory tours which are held throughout May-July with a potential start in August.

Successful candidates commence their 42 month Engineering Technician Machinist Level 3 apprenticeship with the college in September, which will involve day release training at the college (2 days per week for year 1, 1 day per week for years 2 and 3, and on site work based learning for year 4). Day release varies at each college.

Our production working hours per week are:
40 hours Monday to Thursday: 07:30 to 16:30 with 20 minutes paid morning break and 30 minutes unpaid lunch break
Friday: 07:30 to 13:30 with 20 minutes paid morning break.
