Reman turbos make financial as well as environmental sense - 12.02.2018

The market for replacement turbochargers continues to grow as this technology becomes more commonplace in the latest, high-efficiency engines. However, the business case for reman turbos is now stronger than ever with prices up to 40% less than acquiring a brand new OE unit.Turbo1-copy.jpg

Ivor Searle’s all makes reman turbo programme covers both diesel and petrol vehicles with new applications constantly being added.  As a leading remanufacturer, we hold comprehensive stocks and offer free next day mainland UK delivery on stock items, as well as a two-year unlimited parts and labour warranty on all our reman turbochargers.

All Ivor Searle reman turbos undergo stringent quality checks and test procedures throughout the remanufacturing process to ensure maximum durability and service life. Prior to final assembly, the turbocharger‘s rotating assembly is balanced on computerised VSR machines at speeds of up to 250,000 rpm.  All units are then flow tested and calibrated to ensure they perform within the manufacturer’s specifications before undergoing final quality inspection.

Why reman turbos?

David Eszenyi, Commercial Director, Ivor Searle, explains:

“Demand from workshops for remanufactured turbochargers is very strong due to the high cost of purchasing a brand new replacement.  Costing up to 40% less than OE, Ivor Searle reman turbo units provide independent garages with a competitive advantage in the highly price-sensitive market, without compromising on quality, warranty protection or customer service."

"The proliferation of diesel cars and light vans, all of which are now turbocharged, is a key driver behind this growth.  We are also seeing a gradual increase in demand for reman turbos on petrol-engined vehicles, in line with the growth of power output from smaller capacity and more high-efficiency powertrains."

Market growth is also illustrated by a number of new entrants into the turbocharger remanufacturing sector.  With this in mind, product quality and customer service has become a key issue that workshops need to be aware of.  Ivor Searle has made a major investment in the reman turbo market and employs the same quality-focused ethos from over 70 years of engine remanufacturing expertise when it comes to its turbocharger remanufacturing facility, which is certified to ISO 9001:2008.

Ivor Searle's top five reman turbo applications, all of them for diesels, as of the end of 2017:

  • Volvo C30 2.0
  • Citroën Berlingo 1.6
