A customer survey carried out by Ivor Searle has revealed that quality of the product is the primary factor when sourcing remanufactured major units, such as turbochargers, engines and gearboxes.

The social media poll conducted by Ivor Searle asked buyers what the most important factor was when choosing a remanufactured product. Almost 60 per cent of respondents said that quality was the most important factor in their decision-making, with just over 30 per cent citing price as the primary driver. The remaining 10 per cent selected warranty as being of highest importance.

Having recently announced a record trading period, the 76-year old Cambridgeshire remanufacturing firm delivered growth of 35 per cent over the past year, in response to surging demand for its premium remanufactured engines from both UK and EU customers.

The company increased its capacity to enable production of  up to 150 engines per week and expects this to rise further this year. Soaring fuel and energy costs and ongoing delays affecting the supply of new vehicles has meant businesses and consumers are holding onto their existing vans and cars for longer, as Ivor Searle’s Commercial Director, David Eszenyi, explained:

“The global semiconductor crisis and rising costs across the board are forcing car owners, online delivery firms, tradespeople and van fleets to run vehicles longer. We expect this trend to continue for the rest of this year and most likely throughout 2023 with Europe in particular being a particularly strong market for growth.”

“Remanufacturing is a cost-effective and more sustainable alternative to manufacturing brand new products and our record performance clearly shows the increasing relevance of a circular economy. Typically, every engine produced by Ivor Searle saves around 50kg in core metal, whilst using 85 per cent less energy than manufacturing. That’s very compelling.”

According to the report, Automotive Parts Remanufacturing Market: Europe Industry Analysis and Forecast 2016-2024, Europe’s parts remanufacturing market will continue to grow by up to 10 per cent annually. By the end of 2024, the report predicts the market will be worth €20 billion per year.
